It’s absolutely obvious that it is dying in agony, the same as when you put it into boiling water. https://www.rspca.org.uk/-/blog_you_cant_humanely_kill_lobsters_at_home

Comment on Lobster Lingo: Get to Know the Parts of a Lobster by Tom https://lobsteranywhere.com/seafood-savvy/lobster-lingo/#comment-654561 Wed, 19 Jul 2023 12:05:29 +0000 https://lobsteranywhere.com/?page_id=4850#comment-654561 In reply to Fin.

True, although it takes about 5 years for the new claw to get to the size of the one they previously had.
As far as the original question, they are still technically able to eat somewhat using their pincers. The biggest risk to being clawless would be predators and other lobsters, but yes some do live without them.

In New England a red tide peaks in June and begins to subside. Sometimes, secondary blooms occur in late summer/early fall. Lobster meat, crab, shrimp, and most finfish do not normally accumulate toxin and are safe to eat from affected waters. Scallops are safe to eat as long as only the cleaned adductor muscle (the only part generally eaten) is consumed.

That’s exactly right Adrienne. People are very concerned about lobster pain because they have to kill it themselves but give zero thought to how your steak got on the table. Let’s not forget we are at the top of the food chain. Given an instance where we were starved and forging for food, our needs would be met. Eat lobster and enjoy, and cut it to feel a little more kind.

I used to start by cutting the head off but I’m going to do the sharp knife behind the eyes. I’m an animal lover so it does bother me to kill them but I feel much better knowing they may not feel any pain and if so at least it’s quick. If it bothers you to kill a lobster you should look up how cows, pigs, chickens and horses are killed.

Comment on How to Cook Lobster Tails: Boil, Bake, Broil, and Grill by Lobster Louie https://lobsteranywhere.com/seafood-savvy/cooking-lobster-tails/#comment-594261 Sat, 10 Dec 2022 16:28:39 +0000 https://lobsteranywhere.com/?page_id=4729#comment-594261 In reply to julie.

You can wrap them up in foil to keep them warm. It all depends on how you cooked your lobster tails to start.

If you grilled them– you could warm/heat them up on a pan with a little water. If you boiled or steamed them- a quick steam of 1-2 minutes. You just have to be careful you do not overcook– as this is real easy to do.
